A Rise in Wisconsin’s Unemployment Rate Results From COVID-19 Pandemic

According to data supplied by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics released by the state Department of Workforce Development (DWD), Wisconsin’s unemployment rate rose to about 5.5 percent in December. In April, due to the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 439,000 jobs were lost in Wisconsin. The hiring rate has been rather slow ever since. Due to the hiring rate lag, it is speculated that it will take over a year of consistent growth to recover from the immense and widespread job loss that has occurred.
